Gilgit-Baltistan, Pakistan — March 8, 2025
Heavy snowfall has blanketed parts of Pakistan's northern areas, including Gilgit-Baltistan, Hunza, and Skardu, as a cold wave sweeps through the region. The mountainous regions have seen significant snowfall, with temperatures plunging to below freezing, creating hazardous conditions for travelers and locals alike.
Authorities have issued travel advisories, warning tourists and residents to avoid high-altitude roads due to snow accumulation and the risk of avalanches. Local government officials are working around the clock to clear blocked roads and provide assistance to those stranded by the snowfall.
Meanwhile, temperatures in the lower parts of the country, including Islamabad and Rawalpindi, have remained relatively mild, around 18°C, with cloudy skies and intermittent rain expected.
